Why do Yoga in the Morning?

This morning after a short morning routine of yoga, and I felt so great that I just want to write about it!

Whether it’s gentle, yin, or vinyasa, the benefits of a morning yoga routine are as important as breakfast for your body and your mind.

Here are 5 reasons to fit a morning yoga class, or a home yoga routine, into your life:

  • Yoga stimulates blood flow.   Blood  supplies nutrients to your cells for the new day, and removes toxins from your cells from your overnight sleep
  • Yoga activates your muscles.  Every movement, or held posture, activates, engages, and wakes up your muscles throughout your body.   This prepares your body for your days activity.
  • Yoga revs up your metabolism.  As your muscles engage, even in the gentlest of poses, your body chemistry gets the signal that energy is needed, and cells do their job to produce it.
  • Yoga connects you to your breath, your body, and the present moment. During sleep we have been in a different “reality”… the dream space.   Often we get up and start our day, have our coffee, and get going on our “stuff” without a transition, and we go through our day like we’re “sleepwalking”.    A morning yoga practice enlivens our body through movement, connects us to our physical reality, engages deep breathing, and enhances our sense of presence.
  • Yoga practice makes you feel fantastic!  Even a few simple poses and intentional breaths can shift your energy, and create all the positive side effects listed above.  Whether you have a stressful day ahead or a relaxing one, starting it from a sense of aliveness and connection will definitely make your day better!

JOIN US for one of our morning classes this month, and see what a difference it makes in your day!

And if mornings don’t work for you at the studio, try a few poses on your own at home.  Gentle stretches and some focused breathing can turn your day around! You will be glad you did!
